Open Labeling and PIM Forum
Due to the new regulatory standards PIM (EU) and SPL (US) all parties involved in the creation, management, review and submission of pharmaceutical product information have to streamline their information exchange in order to make pharmaceutical product information available to the public more rapidly.
Although there is a general consensus about the numerous benefits of using PIM for electronic data exchange, only a few products (e.g. EXTEDO's PLmanager) have been used so far to create submissions to the Health Authorities. Frequently, submissions have been created in a costly and laborious manual way, not leveraging the full potential of information reuse from existing global labelling documentation, master data management and translation management.
After the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has published their statement of intent on product information management (PIM) in September 2009, all concerned bodies, i. e. pharmaceutical companies, Health Authorities and IT vendors, have to hurry up to meet the regulatory requirements in time.
